Farmland resources in Ontario County are of the highest quality in the Northeast US, combining favorable precipitation with excellent fertility and moderate or negligible slopes. Our climate provides a lengthy growing season. Christmas Trees are a big part of our culture here in Ontario County. A lot of us celebrate Christmas. Families love to go out and chop down Christmas Trees together. Maybe even a little hot cocoa after that. In 2002, there were 36 farms and 617 acres of Christmas Trees in Ontario County. That's a lot of Christmas trees! Also, there were $212,000 spent on Christmas Trees and short woody crops. Christmas Trees are a big part of our culture, community, and especially, agriculture.
