Extending the Season with Cold Frames

  • Saturday, April 13, 2024, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Imagine growing your own vegetables year-round! Harvest lettuce and other winter greens in January for a fresh, crispy, flavorful salad. Create your own miniature greenhouse with a cold frame. Join Master Gardeners Mike and Kathy Hoar to learn how cold frames work and how to set one up. You don’t have to be a carpenter to build one, and chances are, you already have the materials on hand.

They will share plans for different cold frame construction and help you choose what vegetables to grow and when to start them for the best success. You can also use cold frames to get a head start on seeds and seedlings in the spring and to harden-off plants started indoors. They will tell you how. Whether your cold frame is large or small, you'll learn how to stretch the seasons.
